World learns to manage without the US

“The giant sucking sound you here, I said on August 15 on CNBC’s The Kudlow Report, is the implosion of America’s influence in the Middle East. Vladimir Putin’s August 17 offer of Russian military assistance to the Egyptian army after US President Barack Obama cancelled joint exercises with the Egyptians denotes a post-Cold-War low point in America’s standing. Along with Russia, Saudi Arabia and China are collaborating to contain the damage left by American blundering. They have being doing this quietly for more than a year. The pipe-dream has popped of Egyptian democracy led by a Muslim Brotherhood weaned from its wicked past, but official Washington has not woken up.”

Egypt Crumbling: “The Most Important Event so Far of the 21st Century”

“The Saudi-Russia-China alliance is designed to break the Egypt-U.S. relationship. The new alliance reflects how U.S. influence is waning in the Middle East. After many decades of driving events in the Middle East — and spending incalculable national treasure — the U.S. is about to lose big.  New alliances in Egypt reflect Saudi-Russian-Chinese efforts to help keep hard-line Islam under control. The Saudis fear Brotherhood-style religious fervor. Russia wants to control the spread of hard-line Islam in its southern regions — Chechnya comes to mind — while China has issues with hard-line Islam in its western regions. And the U.S.? There’s no sense of consistency coming from Washington.”

Mexico ships first load of premium tequila to China

“The shipment consisted of more than 70,000 bottles of the highest quality tequila, with a total value of more than $400,000, according to the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). ‘It’s the beginning of a great opportunity for the development, expansion and positioning of our national drink, tequila, to conquer this great market,’ CRT head Miguel Angel Dominguez said during a speech at the event in the western Jalisco state.  He added that the Chinese market ‘last year alone accounted for 38 percent of the consumption of alcoholic beverages worldwide.’  Only recently was a ban on 100 percent blue agave lifted, following a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in June.”

JPMorgan Bribe Probe Said to Expand in Asia as Spreadsheet Is Found

“The Justice Department has joined the SEC in examining whether JPMorgan hired people so that their family members in government and elsewhere would steer business to the firm, possibly violating bribery laws. The scrutiny began in Hong Kong and has now expanded to countries across Asia, looking at interns as well as full-time workers, two people said. The employees include influential politicians’ family members who worked in JPMorgan’s investment bank, as well as relatives of asset-management clients, the people said. Wall Street firms have long enlisted people whose pedigree and connections can win business, a practice that doesn’t necessarily violate the law.”

Turkey becomes partner of China, Russia-led Shanghai Cooperation Organisation

[April 2013] “China, Russia and four Central Asian nations – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan – formed the SCO in 2001 as a regional security bloc to fight threats posed by radical Islam and drug trafficking from neighboring Afghanistan.  Ankara began talks on joining the EU in 2005 but has only completed one of the 35 policy areas, or ‘chapters’, every candidate must conclude to be allowed entry due to disagreements largely over the divided island of Cyprus. While China vies with Russia and the West for access to Central Asia’s vast natural resources, some analysts view the SCO as a potential counter-balance to NATO.”

Worldwide loss of oil supply heightens Syria attack risk

“Libya’s oil output has crashed to a near standstill over the past year as warlords and strikes paralyse the country, tightening the screws on global crude supply as the crisis in Syria comes to a head.  There are still pockets of rising oil output, notably in the US where shale oil is rapidly reducing US dependence on energy imports. The geo-strategic effect of shale is double-edged for the US: it lowers the incentive for Washington to commit forces to the Middle East, but it also means the US is better able to handle the consequences of any oil spike. The biggest losers would be those emerging economies such as India and China that rely on fuel imports and operate inefficient industries.”

Deloitte Rep. Warns China, Hong Kong To Sign FATCA Agreement

“‘If the BVI and Caymans comply with the FATCA [Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act], this speaks volumes about the importance of this legislation to the world at large, let alone China and Hong Kong,’ said Patrick Yip, deputy national mergers and acquisitions leader at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. ‘China and Hong Kong financial firms that think by putting assets and income into BVI and Cayman companies they can avoid the reach of FATCA, they need to think again.’  Although a US law, FATCA applies worldwide to every financial institution that receives payments from US sources.  The mainland and Hong Kong should sign the agreements with the US to soothe their worries, he urged.”

22 Reasons Why Starting World War 3 In The Middle East Is A Really Bad Idea

“Russia and China are sternly warning the U.S. government not to get involved in Syria, and by starting a war with Syria we will do an extraordinary amount of damage to our relationships with those two global superpowers.  Could this be the beginning of a chain of events that could eventually lead to a massive global conflict with Russia and China on one side and the United States on the other?  Of course it will not happen immediately, but I fear that what is happening now is setting the stage for some really bad things.  The following are 22 reasons why starting World War 3 in the Middle East is a really bad idea.”

Why Is the U.S. Destabilizing One Country After Another?

google-search-header2

“[..] Sixth, the military-industrial complex and its lobbies on the Hill thrive on the profits, the work of war, the advancements, and the demand for their services that instability brings. The DHS thrives on an atmopshere of war and fear. Members of Congress thrive on making speeches about promoting rights and democracy, even though they are promoting war, instability, refugees and death. The State Department appears to have abandoned diplomacy and become subservient to the neocon influences. Seventh, the U.S. has a ready-made pro-war interest group in many churches. [..]”

Officials now say New Zealand milk scare was a false alarm

“A botulism scare that sparked global recalls of Fonterra milk products was a false alarm and there was never any danger to consumers, New Zealand officials said on Wednesday after new tests. The crisis led to infant formula being taken off shelves from China to Saudi Arabia earlier this month and damaged New Zealand’s ‘clean, green’ reputation in key Asian markets. The dairy industry accounts for about a quarter of New Zealand’s exports and ministry acting director-general Scott Gallacher said officials had been right to issue a public warning early.”
