“The power of hairdryers could be reduced by as much as 30 per cent in order to be more eco-friendly, a draft study commissioned by Brussels suggests, threatening many of the models favoured by hairdressers and consumers for speedy blow-dries. Günther Oettinger, the German EU energy commissioner, said that legislation preventing consumers from buying high-wattage appliances was necessary to fight climate change. Mark Coray, former president of the National Hairdressers’ Federation, said curbing the power of hairdryers would simply mean blow-drying took longer.”

David Crane’s Green Vision For Carbon-Belching NRG Energy
“To further justify NRG’s push into ‘distributed generation’ like solar panels and basement generators, Crane talks up his belief that the U.S. power grid will succumb to a slow death caused by anticarbon regulation and ever-cheaper alternatives like rooftop solar. It’s like the U.S. Postal Service, he says. All the important mail already goes by UPS or FedEx. That puts the post office in a death spiral: It has to raise rates to cover costs, but those higher rates drive away more customers. Electric utilities have already begun responding in the same way by charging home solar adopters new fees for staying attached to the grid.”
California’s Cap-and-Trade Revolt: Poor Face ‘Hidden’ Gas Tax
“Large manufacturers and power plants must now either purchase permits or cut their emissions to comply with a state-mandated cap, which over time will be ratcheted down. Transportation fuel suppliers will also have to pony up for permits. Assembly Democrats fear that applying cap and trade to fuels ‘will cause an immediate jump in prices at the pump.’ While estimates vary, ‘an increase of about fifteen cents per gallon is likely and a much larger jump is possible.’ Green regulations are intended to raise the cost of gas to encourage people to drive less or buy electric cars. As the Assembly Democrats point out, cap and trade is ‘hurting the most vulnerable members of our communities.'”

Growing Warmist Intolerance Threatens Social and Legal Fabric
“This is really an outrageous letter in that it equates legitimate differences of opinion with an attack on state policy. The implication, of course, is that ‘undermining’ is illegal. There are real costs to these promotions. People’s careers and livelihoods are affected. Not only is this sort of warmist intolerance affecting individual careers, it is also depriving groups – even whole continents – of the right to a broad energy marketplace. As in other areas, warmist tactics and intolerance increasingly polarize issues and make rational discussion difficult to pursue. When political interactions become marginalized, or even criminalized, then authoritarianism inevitably expands.”
The bogus climate warnings that spurred Pentagon’s green spending
“Consultants told the military that, by now, California would be flooded by inland seas, The Hague would be unlivable, polar ice would be mostly gone in summer, and global temperatures would rise at an accelerated rate as high as 0.5 degrees a year. The 2003 report is credited with kick-starting the movement that links climate change to national security. The Pentagon is making big investments in biofuels, for example, and is working climate change into high-level strategic planning. There is no exact budget line for climate change. The Government Accountability Office in 2011 documented a big increase in federal spending, from $4.6 billion in 2003 to nearly $9 billion in 2010.”
The Bogus “97% of Climate Scientists Agree” Claim
“There’s a bait-and-switch occurring here. As Friedman spells out, all you need to do is actually look at Cook et al.’s own tables in their paper to see that others (including Cook himself in a subsequent paper!) are misrepresenting their findings. Only 1.6% of the surveyed abstracts clearly say that humans are the main cause of global warming. The 97.1% figure includes papers that merely claim that some amount of warming can be attributed to human activities. Many of the prominent scientists associated with the ‘denier’ label–such as Richard Lindzen, Roy Spencer, Pat Michaels, and Chip Knappenberger (whom I feature here a lot)–would fit into this ‘consensus.'”

Climate Change and Captain Kirk
“Of course, we aren’t seriously proposing government subsidies on the grounds that CO2 emissions confer ‘social benefits’ that aren’t being fully internalized by the emitters. The point is that even taking the Administration’s case on its own terms, it’s not even clear that CO2 emissions are a bad thing. And to repeat, we’re running 2 of the 3 computer models that the Obama Administration team used to come up with these figures for federal agencies. Last point: You might wonder why they (and I) didn’t try peeking under the hood of the third model, the so-called PAGE model. The answer is that it’s proprietary, and the creator (Chris Hope) doesn’t make the code publicly available.”

Solar energy plants in tortoises’ desert habitat pit green against green
“Plans to create two solar energy plants on public lands in California and Nevada are pitting renewable energy advocates against environmentalists who fear the facilities will endanger federally threatened desert tortoises in the area. Federal officials on Wednesday announced the approval of two plants expected to supply 550 megawatts of renewable energy, enough to power about 170,000 homes. Environmentalists voiced concerns that construction will negatively impact populations of desert tortoises in the Ivanpah Valley. In November the group Defenders of Wildlife filed a notice of intent to sue the government under the Endangered Species Act to block the projects.”
Aborted babies incinerated to heat UK hospitals
“The bodies of thousands of aborted and miscarried babies were incinerated as clinical waste, with some even used to heat hospitals, an investigation has found. Ten NHS trusts have admitted burning foetal remains alongside other rubbish while two others used the bodies in ‘waste-to-energy’ plants which generate power for heat. Last night the Department of Health issued an instant ban on the practice which health minister Dr Dan Poulter branded ‘totally unacceptable.’ At least 15,500 foetal remains were incinerated by 27 NHS trusts over the last two years alone. Parents who lose children in early pregnancy were often treated without compassion and were not consulted about the remains.”
Yellen to Take the Green Path to Major Douglas’ Phony Social Credit
“Incoming Chair Yellen can take steps to de-link economic growth from increased carbon emissions in several ways. She can include carbon emissions as an indicator necessary for national prosperity. She can make a carbon cap a part of the Fed’s operations. This could take the form of a declining number of annual allowances to banks that provide loans to the energy and oil industry. The Federal Reserve could create levers to allow for additional economic growth in low-carbon activities, while reining in high-carbon industries. Perhaps most importantly, she can harness the unique power of money creation to help people through the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
